Eliminating food scraps from general waste on Martha’s Vineyard.
The Problem:
Each year the Island creates an estimated 6,500 tons of food waste. Since food waste makes up approximately 30% of trash leaving the Island, this is immensely costly to businesses, residents, and to our environment! At the same time, many businesses are trucking in compost, to use on gardens, farms, yards and more.
Does that make sense?
We don’t think so!
The Solution:
We envision an efficient system Island-wide, to collect and convert food wastes into high quality compost right here on MV.
That means better food, better flowers, money saved on disposal costs, and fewer trucks having to haul trash off Island.
However, we need your help to make this possible!
